FEP 2010 & ConfigMgr Software Updates

April 19, 2011 Leave a comment

Be sure to verify that WSUS is checking for updates for Forefront in your ConfigMgr infrastructure when using FEP 2010 integration. This is very important for FEP 2010 definition updates. In the event that you are not 100% familiar with ConfigMgr Software Updates – it uses WSUS to sync updates.

You will also have to make sure that the “Software Update Point Component” is configured to synchronize FEP 2010 updates and synchronize “Definition Updates” and “Updates”

FEP 2010 & SEP

April 18, 2011 Leave a comment

One of the things that has me the most impressed so far with FEP (Forefront Endpoint Protection) 2010 is that the deployment package that is automatically published when you integrate with ConfigMgr removed SEP (Symantec Endpoint Protection) seemingly cleanly without a reboot and installed itself. I will admit when it said that it removed competing products as part of the install I was really not getting my hopes up.

FEP 2010 Server Install with ConfigMgr

April 6, 2011 4 comments

This is a list of items I did to get FEP (Forefront Endpoint Protection) 2010 installed. I did a “basic topology” installation. My assumption with this post is that you have SCCM 2007 SP2 R3 installed and working properly including the reporting services.

  1. Install KB2271736 from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2271736
  2. Remove any existing antivirus from the server
  3. On your primary server use the FEP 2010 installation media select the proper platform (i.e. x86 vs. x64) and run “serversetup.exe”

  4. Enter your “Name” and “Organization” and then click “Next”

  5. Agree to the software license terms and click “Next”

  6. Select “Basic topology” and click “Next”

  7. Verify that your reporting URL is correct and provide the proper credentials for the execution account (this is not your user account – this is the account specified for execution within the Reporting Services Configuration Manager) and click “Next”

  8. Click “Next” (modify to meet your needs)
