HP Quality Center 9.2 in Windows Server 2008 Installation Failure

January 20, 2011 Leave a comment

If you try to install HP Quality Center 9.2 in a Windows Server 2008 and it fails to register any .OCX (i.e. “bp_test.ocx”) files you need to disable DEP and reboot.  To disable DEP in the OS you can run the following command line, reboot, and then retry.

bcdedit /set {current} nx AlwaysOff

Work around for KB974571 USMT issue

June 3, 2010 2 comments

For those that are not aware KB974571 will break USMT and needs to be removed in order to use USMT.

However…I had a device today that had the KB974571 security patch removed but USMT still failed.  I found that if you run the work around below it will allow USMT to work.  Copy the code and save it in a .VBS file.  After running that you do not need to reboot (however after the removal of the patch a reboot is required).

Dim WshShell
Set WshShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
WshShell.RegWrite "HKLMSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionmsasn1DecodingRules", 2, "REG_DWORD"
